Hindrances to Inclusive Leadership

There are many hindrances that leaders have to address in order to engage in inclusive leadership consistently. Typically leaders behave in exclusionary ways for three main reasons:
  1. They are not knowledgeable about diverse constituent groups.
  2. They do not have the skills to engage effectively with diverse groups.
  3. They are not willing to make the effort to use their knowledge and skills to fulfill their leadership responsibilities towards diverse groups.
Any of these reasons or a combination of these reasons can progressively move the leadership from a position of benign neglect to pernicious marginality of diverse constituents.
